VMware to Update View and Horizon Application Manager
Updates to VMware View
IT services software producer VMware announced today that a new version of their popular View software will become available within the next few weeks. VMWare View 5 is designed to reduce bandwidth requirements in LAN and WAN environments and will include enhancements in areas such as 3D graphics capabilities, integration of voice and video services, and high fidelity virtualization of desktops.
According to VMware vice president and general manager Christopher Young, "As our customers begin to embrace this shift to the post-PC era, we offer a simple way to deliver a better Windows-based desktop-as-a-service that empowers organizations to do more with what they already have. At the same time, we are investing in expertise and delivering the open products needed to accelerate the journey to a new way to work beyond the Windows desktop”.
Horizon Application Manager Also Improved
VMware also announced improvements to its Horizon Application Manager, which will soon allow users to manage access through a central console that also controls the deployment of core programs and updates to virtual applications whether they are running under Windows or another OS. The new Horizon Application Manager should enter beta-testing by December of this year.
The Horizon Mobile system will also experience improvements related to the mobile workspace utilized by an employee. Businesses will soon be able to use this system to create such a workspace, as well as monitor and manage it in a secure manner, while keeping it separate from an employee's personal mobile use, even though both run on the same Android mobile device.
